Annotation of pkgsrc/misc/xdg-utils/DESCR, Revision 1.1
1.1 ! wiz 1: The xdg-utils package is a set of simple scripts that provide basic
! 2: desktop integration functions for any Free Desktop, such as Linux.
! 4: They are intended to provide a set of defacto standards. This means
! 5: that:
! 7: * Third party software developers can rely on these xdg-utils for
! 8: all of their simple integration needs.
! 10: * Developers of desktop environments can make sure that their
! 11: environments are well supported
! 13: If a desktop developer wants to be certain that their environment
! 14: functions with all third party software, then can simply make sure
! 15: that these utilities work properly in their environment. This will
! 16: hopefully mean that 'third tier' window managers such as XFCE and
! 17: Blackbox can reach full parity with Gnome and KDE in terms of third
! 18: party ISV support.
! 20: * Distribution vendors can provide custom versions of these utilities
! 22: If a distribution vendor wishes to have unusual systems, they can
! 23: provide custom scripts, and the third party software should still
! 24: continue to work.
