msmtp: update to 1.8.23. msmtp 1.8.23 is released 2023-01-30 This release fixes XOAUTH2 authentication with some servers, updates the msmtpq scripts, and updates the translations (including a new Swedish translation). msmtp 1.8.22 is released 2022-08-08 This is a hotfix release that fixes building with libgsasl, which was accidentally broken in version 1.8.21 (released earlier today). It also updates the msmtpq script. msmtp 1.8.21 is released 2022-08-07 Changes in this release: - A new configuration command eval replaces the current configuration file line with the output of a command (similar to passwordeval, but more general). - A Message-ID header is now generated if none is present in the mail. This can be changed with the new command set_msgid_header. - The optional msmtpd service now adds a Received header. Furthermore, a few minor problems were corrected and the documentation and translations were updated. msmtp 1.8.20 is released 2022-03-23 This release adds the configuration command allow_from_override. Setting this to off prevents the -f command line option from overriding the envelope-from address set via the from configuration command. This is useful for system-wide installations of msmtp that need to enforce the correct envelope-from address and potentially also the From header (via set_from_header on).

msmtp: Update to 1.8.2 Changes: Version 1.8.2: - To simplify TLS setup, the tls_trust_file command has a new default value 'system' that selects the system default trust. Now you just need tls=on to use TLS; the other TLS options are only required in special cases. To make this work without breaking compatibility with older msmtp versions, tls_fingerprint now overrides tls_trust_file, and tls_certcheck=off overrides both (previously, you could not specify contradicting options). - To simplify setup, a new option '--configure <mailaddress>' was added that automatically generates a configuration file for a given mail address. For more information please read the changelog below. Changes: Version 1.6.1: - The new configure option --with-tls replaces --with-ssl. - A new configure option --disable-gai-idn was added. Version 1.6.0: - Support for SOCKS proxies was added. This allows msmtp to be used with Tor. - GNOME Keyring support now uses libsecret instead of libgnome-keyring. It is now documented how to use secret-tool to manage passwords for msmtp; the obsolete msmtp-gnome-tool script is removed. - Configuration file security is now only checked if the file actually contains secrets such as passwords. (If you still store passwords in the configuration file, consider using the passwordeval command or a key ring instead.) - The GSSAPI authentication method is not chosen automatically anymore, you have to request it manually if you really want to use it. - From: and Date: headers are now added to mails if necessary, for compatibility with sendmail, postfix, exim, and other MTAs. longer create an empty directory $(pkgdatadir) anymore (the default for
$(pkgdatadir) is /usr/local/share/msmtp). Reported by Roman Bogorodskiy.
Version 1.4.7:
- Gnulib update. The nanosleep module still differs from the official gnulib
source.
- Disable SSLv2 because it has known flaws. This only affects the OpenSSL
version because GNU TLS does not implement SSLv2.
- Add new command tls_force_sslv3 and option --tls-force-sslv3 to force
TLS/SSL version SSLv3. This is needed to use SSL with some old and broken
servers. Closes Debian bug #374610, reported by Marko Makela. Thanks to
Julien Louis for tracking this problem down and testing the patch.
- Changed detection of libgnutls so that it works with version >= 1.2.0 again.

The msmtp manual states that it uses the same exit codes as sendmail. Most of these exit codes are defined in gnulib/sysexit_.h EX_OK is defined as 0 in src/msmtp.c if it wasn't already defined. The variable error_code is assigned these exit values, and returned at the end of main(). On Interix, EX_OK is defined in unistd.h: #define EX_OK 0x8001 /* test for regular executable */ patch-ab changes the logic so that when error_code == EX_OK, the exit code is 0 instead of EX_OK. This should work everywhere.

- IPv6 support on Windows systems
- The configuration file supports all commands and arguments related to
TLS and authentication, even if TLS and/or GNU SASL support is not
compiled in
- The GNU SASL library is not required to support DIGEST-MD5 and NTLM
anymore. This means you can now use the packaged versions of the library
from Gentoo or Debian sarge.
- You can use the -v/--version option to find out which authentication
methods are supported.
Version 1.2.2:
- Enhancements to the logfile command:
- All available information is now written to the logfile (new fields:
mailsize=..., smtpmsg='...', errormsg='...').
- Logging to standard output is possible by using "logfile -"

- This version can be compiled without TLS/SSL support; use
--disable-ssl if you really want that.

may increase transmission speed, especially when sending to many
recipients.
- The short option for --file, -f, has changed to -F
- A new option --from/-f is available to set the envelope from address.
- A new option --serverinfo/-S is available to print information
about the capabilities and limitations of an SMTP server

Initial import of msmtp, an SMTP plugin for MUAs, provided by
Bryan Carter Vyhmeister in PR 22840.
and probably other MUAs (mail user agents). msmtp forwards mails
to an SMTP server (for example at a free mail provider) which does
the delivery.
Features include:
* SMTP AUTH methods PLAIN, LOGIN and CRAM-MD5
* TLS encrypted connections
* IPv6 support
* robustness
* detailed error messages (including the full answer of the
SMTP server) if something goes wrong
* sendmail compatible exit codes (which most MUAs understand).
Simply tell your MUA to call msmtp instead of /usr/sbin/sendmail.
